PROJECT 01: BASIC GARMENT DRAPING

This was my first time learning how to drape; it was not as difficult as I thought it was. Unlike the pattern-making technique using mahjong paper, this technique is actually more straightforward because you can already determine the measurement by utilizing the draping tape or a black elastic band. I think in the future when making my garments, I would probably use the draping technique quite often as it is efficient, quick, and easy.

PROJECT 02: ZERO WASTE DRAPING EXPLORATION

We had to choose one look from our 10 initial designs to create and explore the pattern of our drape. I chose to do menswear as I wanted to try it out because I've only done womenswear previously. At first, I thought menswear would be tricky because men are bigger in size than women and the measurements are completely different. However, it was quite easy to follow, and I didn't have any confusion about how to make the garment. This assignment also taught me how to use the Zero Waste Pattern without the need of any references from websites.

FINAL PROJECT: ZERO WASTE FASHION

My final three designs are complete! Throughout this last project, we are to make our 3 chosen designs come to life by making the garment on the actual fabric, following my moodboard and inspiration of kimonos and samurai. My desired feel is that masculine look yet graceful whilst my silhouette is very structured yet airy at the hems.

REFLECTION
Overall, this second semester has been quite tough because I had a shortage of time, and adjustment to the objective, and project theme which is Zero Waste Fashion. However, I was happy that I made something entirely new and I love my color palette a lot because from semester 1, I wish to play around with darker tones. I also never expected for my inspiration to relate to Japanese traditions or any traditions in general as I'm not one who is interested in traditional wear. But this semester made me more aware of the culture & heritage and it made me consider taking traditions as inspiration for my clothing. I'm also glad that I could mix Eastern and Western cultures as one. I feel that in my era and the GenZ or the younger generation in general, we are moving towards Western influence more than East and this mixture of cultures is eye-opening to youths to embrace both cultures in one so that the Eastern culture isn't left out. Not only because of that but it is important that we should know what our ancestors did for us to have this future or present era.
