Final Project: Avant Garde Illustration [ShopMayamode]
LECTURE [29/05]
Mr JR gave us the final project brief through Telegram. The requirements are to paint on a 42.4 x 58.6 canvas board using acrylic paint of white, black and pink.
FINAL PROJECT
The objective is to create a pop-up store for ShopMayamode. The store will exhibit a series of stylish fashion illustrations in contrast with the pink hues on Mayamode walls.
PROCESS
Mr JR told us to get an A2 canvas board, acrylic paint (should include white, black and pink), square shape brushes small-big, diamond shape brushes small-big, a palette and a container for water.
We also had to do a mock-up of our final presentation, so that we are aware of the illustration we are sketching. Below is my mock-up for the canvas board.
I wanted the overall effect and visual to look like a rainy and gloomy yet striking vibe. For the portrait, I wanted to make it look illustrative.

We had to sketch out our piece on the canvas board preferably using a charcoal pen. I didn't have a charcoal pen so I used my own pencil.
FEEDBACK
By: Mr JR
"You could include some hand movement to make the women look as if she is posing."

Sketch on Canvas |
I started of by painting the background. I wanted to make that gloomy raindrop using a mixture of black and pink acrylic paint.

Raindrop Background |
Now here is the fun part, I splashed yellow, pink, red, and white acrylic paint all over the background. I mainly focus on the spattered paint in the center because that is where my portrait is going to be placed.

Splatter Paint Overlay |
Once all that is done, it's time to illustrate the women's portrait. I used black acrylic to outline the portrait using the stroke technique and a bit of etching. I decided to use the stroke technique because after splattering paint all over, I couldn't quite see the pencil outline of the portrait. For the lips, I did a dark red color because I wanted to exaggerate this facial feature the most.
The canvas was lacking some pink highlights so I decided to add some bright pink highlights at some parts of her figure to highlight and bring out the portrait more.
