Task 01: Fashion Technique & Material Exploration
PROJECT 01
To produce 10 design illustrations according to your own theme. A moodboard should be included to summarise a brief idea of your theme. Design illustrations should be colored in either marker or watercolor.
In today's lecture, we did a brainstorming session to decide on our theme. We were asked to list down a few words that describe what our theme would look like and how would the garments look like as well. Here is the list of things that I would expect from my theme.
Ms Maria advised us to use Canva for a quick and easy moodboard construction which includes the color scheme for our theme.
Moodboard [Runway of Fame] |
This is the initial research of my theme in a moodboard form, Runway of Fame. This moodboard contains the color, texture, and overall theme.
10 Sketches |
I sketched out a collection of 10 garments relating to my theme, Runway of Fame. The garments I designed in my sketch are a variety of long and short dresses with a sexy upper top. The texture will be shiny, smooth and furry. I created these garments for party events happening after working hours [evening].
FEEDBACK
By: Ms Maria
"My feedback from Ms Maria regarding the 10 sketches is to alter or change garment designs 2, 4 and 8 as it was more casual."
Last 4 Sketches [Re-Draft] |
I decided to alter my last 4 sketches among my other 10 because it looked common and I wanted to make it different. Following Ms Maria's feedback, I changed garment 8 slightly but still keeping the shape and layout of the garment.
Below are a few videos of my progress on this project.

SUBMISSION:
The theme for my Project 1 collection is Runway of Fame, which is a collection of late-night party wear outfits. This is a grand red carpet entrance filled with the most elegant, luxurious, and sexy garments walking down the runway of fame. A runway fitted for the wealthy and notorious.
These are my final 10 garment designs for my theme, Runway of Fame. I wanted to make a consistent color outcome which is why I stuck to vibrant colors such as red, gold, black and white. I wanted to add a signature style to my croquis design so I included a small lip piece as well as a short but curvy eyelash.

Short Description Of Each Garment
GARMENT #1
A V-neck gold jumpsuit dress with sparkly beads attached to the upper torso to the waist. There is a black fur sheer coat, reaching to ankle length to complete the entire look. The fur covers the collar reaching the hip length and the coat hem.
GARMENT #2
A Cinderella-inspired dress that has a leather white tube top covering the hip with a fluffy greyish dress skirt reaching the toes. The fluffy dress skirt is quite sparkly as it includes glitter. The extra accessories are elbow-length gloves and a protective black bodysuit present inside the white tube top.
GARMENT #3
A sexy dark red V-neck dress with a long white furry scarf attached to the collar flowing down till the knee-length but longer.
GARMENT #4
A mini bright gold dress that is puffed from the lower waist and especially on the sleeves. Gold beads are attached to the upper torso gradually getting lesser as it reaches the hem of the dress.
GARMENT #5
A black leather tube dress with no sleeves except for wrist accessories, that are shaped like a triangle, made out of leather. The dress is shorter in the front as compared to the back. The inner fabric of the dress is made out of silky gold fabric. This dress doesn't have any attractive beads or furry textures as the color difference stands out as the striking look of the garment.
GARMENT #6
A sheer grey bodysuit that has a furry white top covering the bust and shiny beads attached to the lower waist of the suit. This bodysuit is also a mini dress reaching mid-thigh length.
GARMENT #7
A luxurious and appealing color to the eye is red and black. This garment contains a furry red coat covering the torso paired with a patterned black mini skirt.
GARMENT #8
A Cruella-inspired black and white jumpsuit dress that has a V-neck collar. The dress is half black [outer part] while the other half of the dress is white [inner part]. The black sleeves have a lacey texture which has a gradual flow of puffed sleeves that are one inch apart. The outer half of the jumpsuit dress on the legs area has a dress hem shape while the inner half of the jumpsuit is more of a straight-cut like denim jeans.
GARMENT #9
A darker gold slit dress that has a sheer torso with pattern marks shaping the dress until the hem. The pattern marks gradually get bigger and dissolve at the hip area where it is no longer sheer. Dress length reaching beyond the toes with a slit cut from the thigh to the toes.
GARMENT #10
A reddish-purple slim-fit dress with pattern marks at the lower end of the dress. The lower end of the dress is puffed out like the shoulder sleeves but it has a lacey texture. The lacey area contains pattern marks gradually getting smaller near the hem of the skirt.
REFLECTION
This first assignment made me go back to the traditional days of painting and drawing. After a long time, I'm used to the modern technology of drawing digitally until I've forgotten about my painting techniques. Overall I think that I've re-learned back on my watercolor skills and also I enjoyed this project a lot as we get to be creative in our garment designs. I'm proud of my work so far but I'm only unsatisfied with the hair on my models.
