Exercise 04: Zip Stitching
A zip or zipper is mainly used as a binder to connect pieces of fabric together. It is commonly used in garments or bags. There are two types of zippers, which Mr Riza taught us in today's lecture. The first zipper that we learned to sew is the normal zip. The normal zip shows it's interlocking teeth and it can be seen when sewed to the garment. The second zipper that we learned to sew is the invisible zip. The invisible zipper does not show it's interlocking teeth as it it hidden inside the seam. This (invisible) zipper gives a clean finishing compared to the first zipper.
Both of these zippers need different types of footers (sewing machine). The normal zip uses the one-stitch footer and the invisible zip uses the invisible footer.
When adding a zip to your garments, it is essential to create a 2cm seam allowance to sew the zipper on. Once the zipper has been attached onto your garment, you'll need to close the seam allowance so that it shows a clean finishing of the zip.
EXERCISE 04
To produce two kinds of zippers which are: invisible zipper and normal zipper. Using the sewing machine.

Sewing this zip didn't take long but I had to be extremely careful when closing the seam allowance as the zipper has a metal stopper. My needle came in contact with the metal stopper a few times but thankfully it didn't break because my sewing machine was automatic.
It took me a while to sew this invisible zipper because the thread kept overlapping with the interlocking teeth which made it harder to zip the whole zipper.
Below is a video progress, of how I sew the zippers using the sewing machine. I compiled a few short clips that involved me sewing both zippers onto calico fabric.
