Task 02: Digital Design Development

PROJECT 02
To produce 10 digital design illustrations using Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop. A digital moodboard is also required, sticking to your theme in Project 1. All design illustrations must be colored and detailed.

In week 4's lecture, Ms Maria taught us how to use Adobe Illustrator as well as how to create a digitalized flat drawing (head part). Firstly, we learned how to make a digitalized moodboard in Adobe Illustrator by creating frames for each image and color. This moodboard style, compared to the one I made in Canva, is organized and neat. The benefit of a moodboard design being neat is that the theme, colors and texture is shown clearly.

Draft Moodboard

I decided to stick with my previous theme from Project 1 because some of the designs I've made in Project 1 attracted me and I thought that it would look much better when it is digitally drawn in Adobe Illustrator.

We proceeded to the flat illustration solely focusing on the face or head. We had to trace out a portrait using an image of a model in frontal view. On the right is my muse or image for tracing out my face illustration. I didn't include many wrinkles or freckles because I wanted to show a clean portrait of my model and the image on the right was a model with a clean face.

Face Progress

Above is the video progress of how I constructed my face illustration along with the hair.

Color Palette

Face Template

I made different types of facial templates according to skin color from light to dark. As for the hair, I followed my two muses by tracing out their hairstyle. Ms Maria recommended having one more extra hairstyle for a backup.

Above is a video progress of how I constructed the model's figure while also attaching the hair to the head and to the body.

Model Figure

Body Template

I made a variety of body figures in different poses so that I have more choices to choose from. However, I think I may stick with the center body figure because it will be easier to design the garment using that template.

I chose to construct 5 garment designs from Project 1 while the other 5 designs I will construct through tracing garments that were made from 2020-2021. Here are the chosen garment designs from Project 1 which I'll be digitalizing in Adobe Illustrator.

Firstly, I constructed my chosen garment designs from Project 1. I use the clipping mask tool to add texture and details to my garment design

5 Chosen Garment Designs from Project 1

In today's lecture, Ms Maria wanted to view our progress. She gave me some feedback on how to further improve my garment designs.

FEEDBACK
By: Ms Maria
"Make the folds on the clothes so that it looks more realistic because right now the garment looks flat. She also mentions adding some small accessories like earrings or necklaces so that it completes the look from head-toe."

Below are a few videos of my progress on this garment construction. I used the tracing method that Ms Maria had shown us in week 4's lecture.

I used a few 2020-2021 collections to aid in making my other 5 garment designs as well as different fabrics and materials to clip masks onto my garments.

5 Other Garment Designs [Traced in Adobe Illustrator]

5 Other Garment Designs [Close-Up]

Following Ms Maria's feedback, I added details to the finished garment designs to make them more 3D-like instead of a flat drawing. I included the folds of the clothing as well as the highlights and shadow areas. Below is a video progress of how I detailed my finished garment designs.

After completing the details, I moved on to illustrating the shoes for each model. I came up with simple and basic shoe designs because I didn't want the shoes to overpower the garment.

Garment Designs + Shoes

And lastly, to complete the whole look I added pairs of earrings for each model by clip masking earrings I found on Pinterest. Some of the earrings are matching to the garment as they have the same color or texture. Below is video progress showing how I added the earrings to the model.

SUBMISSION:
My finalized moodboard Runway of Fame, created using Adobe Illustrator. The theme, Runway os Fame is a collection of late-night party wear outfits. This is a grand red carpet entrance filled with the most elegant, luxurious, and sexy garments walking down the runway of fame. A runway fitted for the wealthy and notorious.

Final 10 Digitalised Garment Designs

Short Description Of Each Garment

GARMENT #1
A black shoulder top with a pair of black furry puffed sleeves along with a gold bodysuit. The bodysuit has a shiny texture due to the gold beads attached to it while the trousers are plain silky gold reaching ankle length. Extra accessories are a pair of gold earrings and a pair of gold shoes following the greek lacing with no shiny texture, just plain gold in color.

GARMENT #2
A Cinderella-inspired gown following my second garment design from Project 1 instead it is much shorter above the knees. The mini gown has a round collar neck reaching the breast area along with puffed shiny silver sleeves. The gown itself has layers of shiny fabric above the silver silky gown. Extra accessories are a pair of long diamond earrings and a pair of buckle silver shoes with a center lining, there is a transparent coating at the toes area just like Cinderella's glass slipper.

GARMENT #3
Following the shape of the garment design from Project 1 except it has another layer above the first which is a lacey material. A red slim-fit dress with spaghetti straps along with a double coating of sheer red. The first and second layer of the dress is both shiny however the second layer is less shiny than the first. Extra accessories are a pair of diamond studs [earrings] and a pair of red heels.

GARMENT #4
This garment design is following the design from Project 1 which is a bright mini gold dress that is puffed from the lower waist and especially on the sleeves. Gold beads are attached to the upper torso gradually getting lesser as it reaches the hem of the dress. Extra accessories are a pair of long gold earrings and a pair of gold pumps with an opening at the toes area.

GARMENT #5
This garment design is following the design from Project 1 which is a black leather tube dress with no sleeves except for wrist accessories, that are shaped like a triangle, made out of leather. The dress is shorter in the front as compared to the back. The inner fabric of the dress is made out of silky gold fabric. This dress doesn't have any attractive beads or furry textures as the color difference stands out as the striking look of the garment. Extra accessories are a pair of geometrical black and gold earrings and a pair of black heels.

GARMENT #6
This garment design is following the design from Project 1 which is a sheer grey bodysuit that has a furry white top covering the bust and shiny beads attached to the lower waist of the suit. This bodysuit is also a mini dress reaching mid-thigh length. Extra accessories are a pair of pearl earrings and a pair of one-sided white lacing heels.

GARMENT #7
This garment design is following the design from Project 1 which is a luxurious and appealing color to the eye is red and black. This garment contains a furry red coat covering the torso paired with a patterned black mini skirt. Extra accessories are a pair of red fan-shaped earrings with a furry texture just like the top and a pair of red heels with black lacing on the ankles.

GARMENT #8
This garment design is following the design from Project 1 which is a Cruella-inspired black and white jumpsuit dress that has a V-neck collar. The dress is half black [outer part] while the other half of the dress is white [inner part]. The black sleeves have a lacey texture which has a gradual flow of puffed sleeves that are one inch apart. The outer half of the jumpsuit dress on the legs area has a dress hem shape while the inner half of the jumpsuit is more of a straight-cut like denim jeans. Extra accessories are a pair of black diamond earrings and a pair of black furry slip-on heels.

GARMENT #9
This garment design was taken from my collection of garments that were made in 2020-2021. The overall color of the dress is black and white. The top has a white corset with a black lacey bralette layered on top. The black lacey bralette connects the top to the bottom. The black dress skirt was inspired by one of the collections in 2020-2021, of a sleeve design so I recreated the shape into a dress skirt which gradually gets smaller and less shiny. The texture of the dress skirt is shiny and slightly furry. Extra accessories are a pair of black and gold loops [earrings] and a pair of black cross-laced heels with a black strap on the ankles.

GARMENT #10
This garment design is a gold dress reaching the toes which also has double layering like garment #3. The sleeves are shoulder off and slightly puffed. The dress is gradually getting less shinier from the top to the bottom. The outer layer is lacey and shiny while the inner layer is plain gold and silky smooth. Extra accessories are a pair of silver long circle earrings and a pair of black furry slip-on heels.

REFLECTION
I enjoyed this project a lot compared to Project 1 because I prefer illustrating garments digitally rather than hand drawing them. The software wasn't really hard for me to utilize because I've dealt with Adobe Illustrator before and I've learned a lot about the tools and how to use them in illustrator. However, I do prefer the traditional method of constructing my garments manually because it is easier to draw the shape of the garment and a lot of ideas come to mind when I draw them manually. When it comes to presenting, digital is a much better option because the garments are neatly drawn and details are much sharpened compared to hand-drawn garments.
