Exercise 03: Seam Stitching
LECTURE [15/09]
In today's lecture, we were taught how to use our sewing machine. We were given five basic sewing seam exercises; straight stitch, stay or edge stitch, topstitch, welt seam, and french seam.
Straight Stitch: A basic and common stitch that is sewed in a straight line.
Stay/Edge Stitch: This stitch is sewed along the sides of the seam allowance, often the straight stitch is needed to be carried out before performing this stitch.
Top Stitch: This stitch is sewed on top of the seam allowance by a 1/4 inch from the edge stitch, often the straight stitch is needed to be carried out before performing this stitch.
Welt Seam: This stitch is a combination of the straight, edge and topstitch. This stitch provides a stronghold to both fabrics when sewed together.
French Seam: This stitch is known to be a feminine stitch because it is sewed in a way where the thread isn't seen, which creates a neat presentation. Often this stitch is used for putting together sheer fabric.
EXERCISE 03
Using the sewing machine to sew the 5 sample sewing seam on calico fabric [20cmx12cm].
I made a video showing how I sewed all of the five samples on my sewing machine.
