Exercise 01: Basic Hand Stitch
LECTURE [01/09]
In today's lecture, we had to do 5 basic hand stitches on a piece of fabric. Hand sewing methods are rarely used in industries as sewing machines are often used to make garments. Hand sewing frequently occurs when it comes to custom-made clothing or bridal gowns.
EXERCISE 01
We did 5 different types of basic stitches. Running stitch, basting stitch, back stitch, herringbone stitch, and invisible stitch.

1. Running Stitch- It's a straight or running stitch that is not often visible as they are used to close seams.
2. Basting Stitch- It's a temporary stitch. This stitch is often used to hold a seam in place until it's sewn properly.
3. Back Stitch- This stitch holds two pieces of fabric together strongly. The stitches are made in the reverse direction of the typical sewing direction.
4. Herringbone/Catch Stitch- This stitch resembles the bone extending to the spine in a herring fish, in which the stitch was named the 'herringbone' stitch. This stitch creates a fabric pattern.

5. Invisible Stitch- The thread of the stitch is invisible. This type of stitch hides stitch marks underneath folded edges, hence this stitch can create an invisible hem.
